A. Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow.
Think big, think fast and think ahead. This was the
formula behind the success of Dhirubhai Ambani.
Dhirubhai Ambani, the son of a school teacher from a
remote village in rural Gujarat was born on 28th December 1932. As a small boy,
he used to sell snacks to pilgrims outside a temple in his native village but
he had big dreams. Dhirubhai as a teenager moved to Aden to make his future. He
started working as an attendant in a petrol station. Then he took up a clerical
position in an oil company. With the money he earned there, he started Reliance
Commercial Corporation in Mumbai, Then, he opened his first textile mill in
Naroda in 1966. He made 'Vimal' his textile brand which flourished and still
remains a household name in India.

Reported Speech (Revision)
When we report someone's speech/actual words spoken,
certain grammatical changes are made. Let's revise the changes pertaining to
tenses, pronouns and words showing place and time.
Tenses:
Pronouns:
A. Rules for questions beginning with
'wh' word (question words).
(1) Change the reporting verb to ask, enquire of,
demand etc.
(ii) Change the interrogative form into assertive
form and remove the question mark (?).
(iii) Don't use "that" or any other
conjunction after ask, enquire etc.
(iv) Tenses, Pronouns and words showing place/time
are changed as per rules given before.
Example: She said to me, "What is your name?
She asked me what my name
was.
Change the following into indirect
speech.
1. He said to me, "How did you get all this
money?"
He
enquired me how I had got all that money.
2. They said to her, "Why have you come to our
house?"
They
asked me why she had came to their house.
3. I said to
Shyam, "What do you have in your bag?"
I
enquired Shyam what he had in his bag.
4. Mita said to Gita, "Where is my
mother?"
Mita asked Gita where her mother was.
5. The thief said to him, "When will you leave
me?"
The thief enquired him when he would leave him.
B. Rules for questions beginning with
'Helping verbs'.
(i) Change the reporting verb to ask, enquire of,
demand etc.
(ii) Change the question form of sentence into
assertive form.
(ⅲ) Use if/whether as
conjunction.
(iv) Tenses, Pronouns and words showing place/time
are changed as per rules mentioned earlier.
Example: He said to me.
"Are you not afraid?"
He asked me if I was not afrald.
Change the following into indirect
speech.
1. Ram said to Sohan, "Do you know these
questions?"
Ram
asked Sohan if he knew those questions.
2 Monu said to Sonu, "Have they won the
match?"
Monu
asked Sonu if they had won the match.
3. The teacher said to the boys, "Have you been
reading today or not?"
The teacher enquired the boys if they had been reading that day or
not.
4. My brother said to me, "Are you going to
join the Medical Course?"
My
brother enquired me if I was going to join the Medical Course.
5. Mr. Ram said to Anil, "Were you absent
yesterday?"
Mr.Ram
asked Anil if he was absent yesterday.

Dear Reema,
How are you I am fine
here and I hope the same with you. I went Ranthambore National Park.which is in
eastern Rajasthan. It is 180 Miles from Mumbai. We went there by train and it
took 15 hours from Mumbai. We can see there a wide variety of Flora and Fauna.
There were 300 kinds of trees and 50 aquatic plants, 272 birds, 12 reptiles, 30
mammals, 30 to 40 leopards and a large number of panthers. Ranthambore Fort
lies in Ranthambore National Park. It was built in the tenth century .Now the
fort has been converted into a rest house.
It was really an
enjoyable experience to look at the various plants and animals in thr park.i
advice you also to visit the park with your family. Pay my regards to your
parents and love your younger brother.
