Verb: Kinds of verb

What is a Verb?

A verb is a word that expresses or denotes an action or being or possession or some position of the subject.

(क्रिया यह शब्द है जो कर्ता के किसी कार्य अथवा अवस्था को दर्शाता है।)

All sentences must have a verb with a subject in imperative sentences.

Kinds of Verb (किया के प्रकार):

There are three kinds of verb (क्रिया के तीन प्रकार होते हैं।):

1. 1. Transitive Verb (सकर्मक क्रिया):

Some verbs do not convey a complete meaning by themselves. A verb that requires an object to complete its meaning is called Transitive Verb.

A transitive verb needs an object after it to complete its sense.

(जय किसी verb के साथ object का प्रयोग करके वाक्य समझ में आए, तो उसे Transitive Verb कहते हैं।)

For Example:

· The Prime Minister made.

· Jeeva ate.

If we add objects to these verbs, the meaning becomes complete.

· The Prime Minister made an appeal.

· Jeeva ate apples.

· I go to stadium in the evening.

· I lost my pen yesterday.

2. Intransitive Verb (आकर्षक क्रिया):

Some verbs are complete meaning by themselves. A verb that does not require an object to make sense but makes good sense by itself is called Intransitive Verb.

An intransitive verb does not require an object after it to complete its sense.

(जब किसी verb के साथ object का प्रयोग किए बिना वाक्य पूरी तरह समझ में आ जाए, तो उसे Intransitive Verb कहते हैं।)

For Example:

· The stars are twinkling.

· The child smiled.

· The birds chirp.

· The boy swims.

3. Auxiliary Verb (Helping verb ) (सहायक क्रिया): An auxiliary verb helps the Principal Verb in a sentence; as

is, am, are, was, were, has, have, had, may, etc.

For Example:

· Ranjan is playing.

· I am going to school.

· You have done well.

Auxiliary verbs can also function as Principal Verbs; as

For Example:

· I have a watch.

· You are handsome.

· I am a girl.

Finite and Non- finite verbs

To Verb (to write, to play and to pray) and –ing verb (writing, playing and praying) are called Non-finite verbs.

Other verbs are finite verbs.

English Verbs have three forms
