A. Read the passage and answer the following questions.

The Flowering Tree

Sugandha was a girt from a very poor family. Her mother was a weak and old widow.

One day Sugandha found that she had the magical ability to change herself into a flowering tree. She shared this secret with no one except her sister. Sugandha's flowers were of many vibrant colours and smelled very pleasant. Both sisters thought that they could sell the flowers in the market to make enough money to have a secure life.

Sugandha's flowers became so popular that they were used to decorate the Prince's palace. The Prince was so fond of the flowers that he wanted to plant the same tree in his private garden but no one knew which tree it was. It was only when Sugandha's sister, the flower seller girl, was followed by the Prince's men, Sungandha's secret was discovered by the Prince. He was immediately attracted towards Sugandha's beauty and magical skills and decided to marry her.

On the very first day of their marriage the Prince requested Sugandha to change into the flowering tree so that he could spread the flowers all over his bed. Sugandha first hesitated, but finally agreed.

The Prince also told his friends about his wife's ability. So they all came and urged Sugandha to transform, and again Sugandha hesitated. But she loved the Prince very much and did not want to disappoint him. When she transformed, all the friends shouted with glee. Some plucked flowers and others even broke branches. Sugandha cried in pain but no one bothered. When they left, Sugandha returned back to her human form. She was bleeding and her skin was scratched in many places. She was so upset that she ran into the forest to transform into the tree and hide there. The Prince tried very hard to find Sugandha but he could not. He became sad and sick.

One day when the Prince was walking in the market, he smelt the same flowers and saw that a little girl was selling them. He demanded the girl to lead him to the flowering tree. When he saw Sugandha again he asked her to come home. But she did not listen and said, "I gave love to you and your friends, but I did not get any love in retum. People use trees and give them nothing in return." She vowed that she would only go back if people promised not to hurt trees and give them more respect. The Prince was so ashamed that he promised that he would never leave her side.
